On a certain moment we even could see some God Clouds. It looked as if it all was arranged because this was our last day in Death Valley. But there was even more of this natural phenomena to come. By the way, if you would like to see more and larger sizes of these images go to Loftmatic’s flickr page.

This was the last picture I took from the rainbow in the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. I could have used a level and curves adjustment layer in Photoshop to give everything more colour and contrast but I like it as it was shot.
After the rain, wind and cold temperature we got a rainbow. The parking lot was suddenly filled with people who were making pictures and were asking if they were in our way. A truck with a commercial photographer came in. Loaded with his gear he disappeared into the dunes. Other people followed his traces in the sand to make pictures from there.
This is a very abstract view on the dark-brown/magenta area beside Badwater Road. It reminds me of the colour field paintings of Mark Rothko. Although his compositions are much more interesting. And his colours are sometimes much brighter.
I never had the chance to photograph a rainbow. A Japanese family got out of their car and went painstakingly slow in front of me and the camera to do a relaxing walk into the dunes. The woman constantly apologised for being in the frame. I just waited. The rainbow stayed there for more than ten minutes (I think). I even had time to change my lens to this 14-mm one and to re-position my camera that the ends of the rainbow ended up in the horizons corners.
After returning to Furnace Creek we went again to Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. It was very bad weather. Lots of clouds, rain and no sun at all. We waited for two hours with no particular reason. Just waiting in the car while looking to the changing clouds and lighting.
During the way back to Furnace Creek the weather was even getting more wors. It was getting so dark it looked like it was in the evening. But sometimes the sun came through. Just enough to give the darkness some light.
